EDD Campaign Tracker

EDD Campaign Tracker is an extension to Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) plugin which tracks Google campaign data and associates EDD orders with campaign data.

The tracked data will be displayed in the following places.

  • Payment History screen
  • Order Details screen
  • New sale email

Campaign Data Fields

This extension can track the following fields from Google campaign data.

  • Campaign Name
  • Campaign Source
  • Campaign Medium
  • Campaign Term
  • Campaign Content

Campaign Data Collection

This extension by default collects the campaign data from Google Analytics cookies. If you are using the new Universal tracking, then this plugin collects the campaign data by intersecting the first request.

Installing the Campaign Tracker Addon

EDD Campaign Tracker addon requires Easy Digital Downloads plugin to be installed and activated. So make sure that EDD is installed before activating this addon.

After the addon has been downloaded you can install it using the standard WordPress plugin installation method.

  • Log into the WordPress admin dashboard.
  • Navigate to the Plugins | Add New menu item
  • Click on the Upload link in the horizontal menu under Install Plugins
  • Click the Browse button and find the zip file that you downloaded
  • Click the Install Now button
  • Click the Activate Plugin link at the end of the installation messages.

Configuring the Addon

After the addon is installed and activated, it automatically starts to track the campaign information. You don’t have to configure anything.

The addon also automatically detects whether Universal tracking is enabled for Google Analytics or not and tracks campaign information based on that.

Viewing campaign information in the order list page

  • Log into the WordPress admin dashboard.
  • Navigate to the Downloads | Payment History screen. You should see a new column in the table that lists orders called “Campaign” that lists the Google Analytics campaign name for this order.
  • To sort the orders based on the Campaign name, just click the column header.
  • To see only orders from a particular campaign, just click the campaign name in the table.

Viewing campaign information in the order details page

  • Log into the WordPress admin dashboard.
  • Navigate to the Downloads | Payment History screen. You should see a new column in the table that lists orders called “Campaign” that lists the Google Analytics campaign name for this order.
  • Click the “View order details” link for the order that has the campaign information. There should be a table below the “Payment Notes” meta box that displays the campaign information. It will list values for all the 5 campaign variables (campaign name, source, medium, term and content).

Viewing campaign information in the “New Order” email

  • Log into the WordPress admin dashboard.
  • Go to Downloads -> Settings -> Email. There should be a new tag called {campaign_info} that will be available for under both “Purchase Receipt” and “Sale Notification” text boxes.
  • If the tag is used, then the new sale email that is generated will have a table that displays the campaign information.

Visualising earnings based on campaign information

The addon also allows you to generate reports and visualize Earnings and Sales data based on campaign.

  • Log into the WordPress admin dashboard.
  • Navigate to the Downloads | Reports screen.
  • Choose Campaign from the dropdown and click Show button.
  • Select the campaign name for which you want to see the associated Earnings and Sales and the time period.
  • You will not be able to see the Earning and Sale information for that particular campaign.
