The structure of a dissertation is highly different from that of regular articles. This is all due to the difference in focus that professors expect a student to make when writing a dissertation. For a dissertation to excite its teacher and bring out the findings of their research, the article has to be structured in a very specific manner. A dissertation structureis the framework from which a student is expected to formulate their paper. Here is the breakdown of the standard kind of structure that a dissertation should follow;
Introduction – here, the writer gives a brief description of what the dissertation will explore. Literature review – in this section of the dissertation, the writer provides a brief analysis of some of the books that he has read. The reason here is not to bore the reader, but to ask them to read the book and then give a synopsis of the next few pages. This is very important as it makes the reader have a vivid understanding of the research topic. Methodology – under this section of the dissertation, the writer explains the tools and techniques he will use to collect data. He gives a brief overview of the methods that will be applied during the research and the materials that will be collected. This will help generate the necessary literature for the student. Results – this is the section of the dissertation where the student gets to present their findings after conducting research. They are supposed to include the data collected during the study, account it with whatever evidence was found. The student is expected to then describe the results, and provide a conclusion. Discussion – in this section of the dissertation, the writerprovides a solution to the problem being addressed by looking at the past results of the research. This is closely related to the discussion section in the regular articles. It is essential to point out that the structure of a dissertation is similar to that of any other regular essay. However, there are some differences that can be noted. While this may be so, we shall always emphasize on the importance of an introduction in a dissertation.
